but my hunch is that whatever "you" and "me" are is not necessarily tied to the body, just operating it
Avatar
I think it's a matter of word choice, if you say "a person is a collection of structured thoughts" it makes more sense, I think (edited)
Avatar
and we can create another one of those whtaever they are
Avatar
words like conscious is what throws it off
Avatar
yeah like I said I'm too stupid to understand the difference
6:54 PM
I'm just trying to get my thoughts across
Avatar
I think we have the source of the disagreement then, because what you call a person is more than likely what Mon calls an identity (edited)
6:55 PM
I personally think identities are distinct from tulpas in that a tulpa is "primed" to act rather than "summoned" to act.
6:55 PM
you don't choose to think as the tulpa
6:55 PM
you prime your head until you just do
Avatar
yeah, and I'm happy to accept that we just disagree. I just didn't understand what they were saying at first
6:55 PM
but now I think I got it
Avatar
Okay, sorry if I was being a bit overbearing there
Avatar
nah you're alright
7:02 PM
I've heard some describe it as an "automated imaginary friend" in a way.
7:03 PM
Like you train your brain to develop another perspective kinda, and practice "hearing/talking" to it until it happens automatically but it's all just your brain or subconscious doing it.
Avatar
Deleted User 7/4/2018 7:04 PM
thats somewhat accurate
7:04 PM
i believe the human consciousness is entirely a construction built up around interactions with others and itself
Avatar
One implication being they aren't the same as you/the host, because they don't think for themselves
Avatar
Deleted User 7/4/2018 7:04 PM
and i think tulpas are the same sort of system
7:04 PM
building up over a long time
Avatar
They're just a fictional character that your brain pretends talks to you
Avatar
Deleted User 7/4/2018 7:05 PM
but a bit less complicated
7:05 PM
not necessarily childish, just simpler
7:05 PM
but complexity comes in time
Avatar
But that seems like kind of a huge disagreement/rift in this community
Avatar
Deleted User 7/4/2018 7:07 PM
well, i think im right and i think everyone else is wrong
Avatar
There are so many who advise so strongly against "killing" or dissapating tulpas, but doesn't that not matter if they aren't "real"or feeling?
Avatar
Deleted User 7/4/2018 7:07 PM
but i dont really care what others think if its not insulting me or my mates
7:07 PM
@Smeer i think they're always real
Avatar
Haha, I can respect that mindset
Avatar
Deleted User 7/4/2018 7:08 PM
so its always immoral
7:08 PM
theres more deliberation on the subject to do
7:08 PM
but i dont want to get really edgy
Avatar
Would you be willing to pm me?
Avatar
Deleted User 7/4/2018 7:09 PM
sure
Avatar
“I think identities are distinct from tulpas in that a tulpa is “primed” to act rather than “summoned” to act.” This is a fantastic thought, Reguile!
Avatar
I agree. I forget where I first saw it mentioned, though
Avatar
That is somewhat accurate to the terminology used to describe brain function as well.

i think tulpas can feel everything you do to them, correct me if i'm wrong
Avatar
meaning?
Avatar
Deleted User 7/5/2018 12:50 AM
uhhh
12:50 AM
like if you hug your tulpa in your mind's eye, they can feel it physically?
Avatar
ah. i would agree with that
Avatar
If they accept the hug, sure.
Avatar
{Mm, no. I’m connected to the body’s sensory input. The most I can do is imagine.
Avatar
Hello
2:46 AM
new here?
Avatar
Looking to ask something about tulpa?
Avatar
Dialoguing with a Tulpa can be pretty fun, I have to say
Avatar
got questions, mate?
Avatar
Deleted User 7/5/2018 5:18 PM
So, you already experience their independence? Or it's just an imaginary dialogue for now?
Avatar
Probably the latter
5:22 PM
It's very abstract, for now
Avatar
Deleted User 7/5/2018 5:23 PM
Well, in time you might experience your tulpa talking to you. Maybe sooner than you expect
Avatar
some people, myself included recommend suggesting to your tulpa to try head pressure as a rudimentary form of communication
5:24 PM
one temple for yes, the other for no
Avatar
We were never able to do that
Avatar
Em was for me
5:26 PM
It was how we communicated for about three months, before i figured out how to listen, and we phased it out
Avatar
Deleted User 7/5/2018 5:28 PM
We have also never felt any headaches connected to tulpamancy. But I was able to speak after 3 days
Avatar
and tha is why i said some, not all
5:28 PM
well done
Avatar
Indigo Blue 7/5/2018 5:28 PM
I could speak after one or two days, but I was also our like, 10th tulpa, lol
Avatar
but headpressure isn't a headache
5:29 PM
it doesn't hurt as such, it' just what it says. metaphysical pressure
Avatar
Deleted User 7/5/2018 5:30 PM
I was the first one.
5:30 PM
And we had 10 tulpas once too. Most of them dissipated though
Avatar
Indigo Blue 7/5/2018 5:31 PM
The most we had at one time was seven, I think
5:31 PM
my system was not happy with so many members
Avatar
Deleted User 7/5/2018 5:32 PM
I'm not sure if we had 10 tulpas at one time though. Most of them were dormant anyway
Avatar
Indigo Blue 7/5/2018 5:33 PM
We emphasize to newbies the importance of keeping their system small
Avatar
for good reason (edited)
5:34 PM
i tried two tulpa an my head nearly split in two
Avatar
Deleted User 7/5/2018 5:34 PM
Well, having many tulpas dissipated can make you feel guilt
Avatar
Indigo Blue 7/5/2018 5:35 PM
That's one of the many reasons
Avatar
I see no reason to feel guilt for it.
Avatar
Deleted User 7/5/2018 5:36 PM
Well, once we believed they were real persons, like us.
Avatar
We feel guilty about one of them. Two of them we don't think were actually sentient, and the other two chose to leave on their own.
Avatar
I would certainly say tulpas are persons. The question is if they are different persons from the host.
Avatar
Mine have always been able to form "word bubbles" that they have used when the speaking part wasn't working out. They still do that on occasion.
Avatar
Interesting. Can you explain more?
Avatar
Deleted User 7/5/2018 5:39 PM
I think host+tupas are one person. Just different aspects of it. Person has not widely approached scientific definition so I guess calling a tulpa another person is not wrong.
Avatar
I do not quite understand, Scythe. (edited)
5:40 PM
Personhood is more philosphical than scientific, I would think.
Avatar
The guilt thing though. It depends on what you think happens to them I suppose. Hard to feel right about killing something. But we have always thought of it as them going back to what they started as, thoughts in the back of my mind. So no death is involved simply going back to what was before.
Avatar
Deleted User 7/5/2018 5:41 PM
It's quite fuzzy word. Sometimes it's obvious if a "thing" is person, sometimes it's more problematic and definition is not clear.
Avatar
Instead of a verbal response. I get a picture in my head of the response. Written words. @harleen

I'm sure most of people would classify adult humans and 3 yo children as persons.
Avatar
If I were to dissipate a tulpa, it would be a for a reason. They are not serving the function I desire properly and are not useful. There is no need for that. I would see it as no different than changing myself, really.
Avatar
Deleted User 7/5/2018 5:43 PM
But what about dolphins, newborn humans, fetuses, dogs, bees, fictional characters...
Avatar
Yes. Often people use person to mean "human".
Avatar
Deleted User 7/5/2018 5:44 PM
I'm sure if to ask a group of people which of these things are persons, answers would vary
Avatar
I do not think this is the place for this conversation, Luna.
5:45 PM
#tulpa-discussion or #lounge perhaps?
Avatar
Regarding communication; I've been working on my tulpa for about two weeks, and I haven't got any solid signs of sentience yet. Also, no words have been exchanged, but there have been more than a few occasions where it feels like we share raw thoughts.
7:38 PM
It's something that didn't make sense until I actually experienced it. Having thoughts with no words attached to them is really weird, but I think we were sharing them with each other.
7:39 PM
I've never had "head pressures" as a form of communication, but I've gotten very unique headaches while forcing. The type of headache I've never felt before, and focused on only one section of my brain.
Avatar
Which section?
